Flag Etiquette and Disposal

Our Post is "BIG" on Patriotism and Americanism.  We are thrilled to have to opportunity to go into our schools, Boy's and Girl's Clubs, Civic organizations, and businesses to teach about our Flag.  We, in the VFW, have all fought, bled, and many more have died, for our country's Flag.
Public Law 94-344, known as the Federal Flag Code, contains rules for handling and displaying the U.S. flag. While the federal code contains no penalties for misusing the flag, states have their own flag codes and may impose penalties. The language of the federal code makes clear that the flag is a living symbol.

We conduct Flag retirment ceremonies throughout the year to properly retire tattered, worn out, faded flags that can no longer represent our Nation.  These Flags are properly folded, placed in the fire, and then the ashes are buried on site.  It is only fitting that our Flag is handled in this manner.  Check out our Youtube video of one of our retirement ceremonies.
